Is It A Good Idea To Shave After Your Spray Tan Session???

Updated: Jan 11, 2019

Spray tanning is a fine process; therefore, preparation is KEY!!!! When you take your time and prepare properly, your tan will thank you for it!!!! It will be smoother, even and it will last a lot longer... The procedure is pretty quick, simple and there are not that many things that can go wrong. However, there are certain aspects of Airbrush Tanning that you should consider and pay close attention to.

1. You should make sure you don’t have other skin treatments 24 hours before of your spray tanning session (Chemical Peel, Sauna....etc).

2. You should not apply deodorant or antiperspirant right before your tanning salon. You should not shower or go swimming for a least 8 hours after your session. Some solution only require 2-4 hours to develop. Halleluyah

3. How about shaving after your Spray Tan session? This is a very common question, and the answer is YES – you can shave both before and after your session, but there are certain rules you need to follow.

Tips On Shaving BEFORE Your Spray Tan

I recommend shaving 24 hours before your spray tanning appointment. Not only is it a great way to exfoliate your skin, but shaving right after your spray session can leave bumps and ruin the tan you’re working towards. However, when you give your pores enough time to close up prior to the session, that could aviod the appearance of notorious polka dots.

Both shaving and waxing provide a smoother skin for a spray tanning professional to work with, which means your tan will be smoother, better quality as exfoliated skin doesn’t have dry patches that usually lead to uneven spray tanning results.

Tips On Shaving AFTER Your Spray Tan Session

Shaving after your session not only about cutting your hair, it is also about exfoliating the skin, so you should wait at least 8 hours after your spray tanning session is over as the tanner needs this time to set.

Use New Razor

Chances are your old razor might be dull and dirty and using it will probably drag heavily on your skin and as a result, it would remove the tanner.

Do NOT Use Shaving Foam

Shaving foam and other shaving products are usually loaded with ingredients (like alcohol and heavy detergents) that can potentially damage your sunless tan. If it is really necessary for you to use something that will act as shaving foam, try using a product that don’t contain sulfate. There are also shaving lotions you can use that are made especially for sunless tanning.

Do Not Press Hard

While shaving, avoid pressing too hard. This way, your razor won't scrape off the tanning solution.

Don’t Shave Too Often

Try not shaving every single day. The more you shave, the faster your new Airbrush Tan tan will fade out.
